General praise of this thing

This is a great Laptop. "They don't make'em like this no more".

This thing went through a lot of abuse in its lifetime, starting in a school, being my kids laptop and much more. Amazing that this thing still runs and that nothing is broken. Also this is a very serviceable machine. You can change most parts easily by opening various hatches. HDD, CDROM and Memory was easy to change on most laptops back in the days, but here you can also easily change the WiFi Module, the Keyboard, Bios Battary and even the CPU (yes, it's socket!). Even the main battery still works (to some extend of course, after all these years). Modern Laptops cannot keep up with the build quality of this thing. Also nice of HP to have the drivers still available. I have a hand full of newer laptops that look already more worn, even though they never have been at schools or abused by little children. Not too mention the lack of being able to upgrade these things.

Why?

I use it to play old XP-era games. Most demanding game that runs OK on this thing is GTA3 San Andreas. The GPU is a bit of a limiting factor. Midtown Madness runs great - and all those strategy (C&C) and adventure games (Lucas Arts) are no challenge for this PC.

Also sometimes for fun I run old version of Matlab etc from back in the days (and before) or use it to connect old hardware that is not supported post Windows XP - like some digital cameras etc.
